Dutch Hollow Home, Utah
Midway – Dutch Hollow
New Construction (2018)
The goal for this client was to provide a new build that fit within the limitations of the site, provided a look that was truly unique and had a layout that embraced the environment in which the home is set.
The challenges with this project were focused on keeping the home low in profile while providing two stories of living space. In addition to meeting the budgetary concerns of the husband while providing the space and room needs of the wife and children. It was a challenge navigating the dynamics of the family and often having to work through opposing ideas to find a solution in the end that made everyone happy.
To meet the vision of the client we pull the home forward on the site and angled the wings of the layout to follow the side yard setbacks of the home. We provided a ‘portal’ that allows the owners to drive ‘thru’ the home and into the private setting of their home. We buried one wing of the home into the existing grade to help keep the house form feeling too tall. The center area of the home we narrowed the width and keep the roof line down to help keep with a human scale.
The clients love the end design and are currently in construction. We have been making slight variations to the design during construction to help make for an easier build and to take advantage of some unique spaces. The build is expected to be completed before the end of year.
